The Conversation Prism, developed by Brian Solis and Jess3, is a visual mapping of the shifting landscape of social networks and micro communities. It’s a living, breathing representation of social media, a great tool for marketing, finance, human resources and more.
We had the honor of printing the poster version of the Prism. The 22″x28″ poster is printed in full-color on 100# uncoated text (which contains 30% recycled content). Here’s a quick look at Dave Reigelman of the Jakprints’ Finishing Department, as he wraps up the job by rolling and tubing the posters. (Soundtrack courtesy of Dave’s band PKS)

December is crunch time for calendar printing! At Jakprints, we see the majority of our calendar work from September through December, just in time to get them wrapped up for the new year. A recent project we brought to life was for The Sanctuary for Senior Dogs; a full-color calendar for a great cause.

The Sanctuary for Senior Dogs does a lot of great work such as rescue, care, adoption, and placement of senior dogs, including various therapy and companion programs. Each month of their calendar features a large photo and bio of a sanctuary adoptee as well as moon phases, holidays, sanctuary events and fun-holidays such as “Underdog Day”.

Graying Muzzles 2010 is printed on 100lb gloss text throughout, featuring self-cover bindery. The 28-pages are a perfect desk-size at 8.5 x 10.81 flat / 8.5 x 5.405 finished.

If you’re interested supporting a great cause (and admiring expertly-printed pictures of pooches) grab a copy of the Graying Muzzles 2010 Calendar, proudly printed by Jakprints.

The great part about getting to work with a variety of musicians is the variety of visual styles we encounter, and the different challenges those styles bring. We recently worked with the metal band Cephalic Carnage (technically grindcore for those keeping track!)

The trick for our embroidery department was figuring out the best way to replicate their logo in thread. Most of the time, basic pattern-fills are used for simple shapes, but for complex images such as the Cephalic Carnage logo (which has many small points and details) a different approach was needed…

Every stitch seen on this Yupoong #6277 Cap was programmed manually; meaning this entire design was mapped out by hand, not by the computer!

A quick pic of Emily loading the manually set program. Many thanks to Cephalic Carnage and their official store Indiemerchstore.com for this awesome project!

It was recently our pleasure to collaborate on the new Kind Snacks corporate gifts 2009 catalog. Kind Snacks is a producer of all-natural whole nut and fruit bars, made (as they simply state it) “from ingredients you can see and pronounce.®”
Designed by our friends at Asterisk Labs, this vibrant 10″x6″ catalog is printed in full color with soy & vegetable-based inks. The piece is printed on our in-house 100# Gloss Text, which contains 30% recycled content.
The great part about working with Kind, LLC is that they are full of drive, passion, quality and…. kindness. Being “kind” is at the forefront of their business model, and is an integral part of the their philosophy. Among other things, they donate at least 5% of profits to causes that foster global coexistence and kindness. A fun example of their philosophy at work can be seen at Kinded.com. It’s a movement started by Kind Snacks that is geared towards encouraging the world community to surprise others with unexpected “kindings”.

Fake Is Good (fakeisgood.com) is a designer and artist who recently participated in Primary Flight in Miami, Florida. We’re thrilled she entrusted Jakprints to print the poster art which was used for the installation. The 18×24 posters are printed in CMYK plus an additional spot gold metallic, which F.I.G. took advantage of by using our metallic gold upgrade.

F.I.G. applies adhesive to the wall before adding the last of the Benjamins.

The final touch: F.I.G. paints the lower part of the wall a deep black, making the finished installation bold and impacting.

A few stencils and white spray paint and the wall is complete!

Thanks to F.I.G. for choosing Jakprints, and for letting us share her process and artwork! View more projects and artwork at fakeisgood.com.

We’re running our free metallic gold special through December 2009. With that in mind, we’ve put together a quick tutorial on setting up a spot color in Adobe Illustrator. For those of you that are new to setting up files with a spot color (or for anyone that might want a refresher) this is a high quality upload so you can see all the details in full screen.
