Favicards are a product that we developed here at Jakprints to be a simple and effective way for you to promote your social networking pages like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Myspace, LinkedIn and even your iTunes store. They stand out because the size is a bit smaller in width than a normal business card and it has a familiar feel since it’s square with rounded corners just like an app!
Favicards are a very simple product to order. There are six standard versions to choose from, depending on what site your interested in promoting. After you select your design you can add text or upload a small photo. This works great too if you want to put a QR Code that will take people to your website when it’s scanned.
Favicards come finished as 2×2 inch squares with 1/4 inch rounded corners and full color double sided print. They’re printed on thick 16pt card stock then topped off with our soft touch coating, which has a matte finish that’s silky smooth to the touch, sure to call attention when placed in somebody’s hands. You also have the option to completely design your own custom front and back. We provide pre-made templates for you to use in your favorite graphics program. When you’re ready to order just upload your custom design.
For more information on a product that’s sure to make your social network grow, check out www.favicard.com and create yours now!

A new feature on the Jakprints blog is to spotlight an employee so you can get to know the people here at Jakprints that help make your ideas become reality.
First up is account manager Angie Franklin. Angie has over three years under her belt in this position. She has had the opportunity to work with such clients as Andrew W.K., Stheart Clothing and Relapse Records. She’s also a part time entrepreneur with her clothing line Angapunk Apparel. We recently asked Angie a few questions about herself and what she does here at Jakprints and this is what she had to say.
Favorite Color: It’s a tie between pink and slate grey.
Favorite Food: Anything spicy.
Favorite Movie: Coffy: A 1973 Blaxploitation film staring Pam Grier. The soundtrack is amazing!
Favorite Band/Musician: Anything fast, mostly punk rock style. Think Strike Anywhere, Bad Religion, Rancid, and Tsunami Bomb.
What do you like to do in your free time? I’ve become quite the fashion junkie. I love “nerding out” to fashion blogs to get ideas and see what the new trends are. I’ve been playing around with my own blog and clothing line that caters to women for the past year or so. I plan on having some new items for spring/summer.
What would you do if you had a million dollars? Travel. Everywhere.
If you could travel to one place in the world where and why? I would love to check out London or Japan one day. Both seem to have a very unique style and culture that I think I could get into.
What do you like most about working at Jakprints?: It’s a challenge but it’s fun. The people that work here all have such a unique story. It’s awesome to see all the different lifestyles and personalities come together to work as one.
What are some interesting projects you’ve been a part of? Every project I work on is interesting for the most part, whether it be helping to launch a new clothing line or preparing for a special event. Since we are a custom shop, I always seem to get some new and wacky project to work on each day. I learn something new with each one too.
What is the most rewarding thing about working at Jakprints? Helping people create their visions. Making something that helps them stand out in crowd is a pretty rewarding feeling.

Words: Jeff Wiesenberg - Apparel Production Manager • Video: LT Magnotto - Apparel Separator
This past weekend, a couple of Jakprints apparel production employees jumped in a rental and drove to Manhattan to check out the Agenda NYC trade show. This is the first year the Agenda trade show was in NYC, so we could not pass up the opportunity to check out the things going on.
As expected, the show did not disappoint. Held inside the history Chelsea Art Museum (CAM), the Agenda show is a street wear & action sports trade show “with a strong emphasis in style, art, music and culture”. The show included such notable companies as Vans, Obey, Alpine Stars, The Hundreds and Crooks & Castles, each displaying their summer/fall lines.
A good amount of time was spent looking through racks of shirts, keeping a close eye on on print quality and separation technique. We ran into some old friends at the show while also making a few new ones. After spending a couple hours checking everything out, we stopped by the Capsule show which was being held directly next door. Although the Capsule show focused more on the actual manufacturing of higher end apparel, it was very neat to see that whole side of the business. We spend so much time with our noses in presses, we do not get a chance often to see how what we are printing on gets made.
Later that night, we made our way to the newly opened House Of Vans in Brooklyn. Thanks to our good friend and artist Jay Croft for hooking up the good times. I can’t think of a better mix than free skating, pizza and Tecate! Its amazing how you can travel hours or even days away and you always happen to run into someone from back home, what a night!
The following day, we were invited by the good people of Ulano Corp, an emulsion manufacturer, to tour their production plant located also in Brooklyn. Lets just say we have a much higher appreciation for emulsion than we did prior to walking in. We were amazed by the amount of chemistry and testing involved in a product once thought of as “dyed Elmers glue”. I am positive any print geek, such as myself, would have similar feelings.
Thanks to everyone we met along the way and old friends not seen for a while.

QR Codes Explained.
Share · Posted by Matt Murphy in Fun Stuff, News, Techniques, Tutorials
A QR code, which is short for Quick Response, is a two dimensional bar code readable by a QR code reader or smart phone. The code is made up of black modules arranged on a white background. The information encoded can be text, a URL or other information. Some smart phones such as Blackberry and Droid come equipped with QR Code readers. Others like the iPhone can download a free QR Code reader app to scan these quirky bar codes.
QR Codes were originally developed by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994 for use in the automobile industry as a way to track parts in vehicle manufacturing. QR Codes are now used in a wide range of ways including commercial and print ads to link people to a products web page. It can also be used on a business card to add a vCard to the persons’s device. The vCard is a file format that is standard for electronic business cards that can contain a name, address, email, phone number, photos, and even audio clips. Users can also generate their own QR code by using one of the many free QR code generation sites.
Recently QR codes have become more common in marketing circles and have been used in both traditional and interactive campaigns. Some places where QR codes have been use include: billboard ads, in-store displays, event ticketing and tracking, trade-show management, business cards, print ads, contests, direct mail campaigns, websites, email marketing, and couponing just to name a few. QR Codes are valuable to marketers because it gives them the ability to measure response rates very accurately.
We are seeing more and more projects here at Jakprints come through with QR Codes, one of which is the shirt pictured above. This was produced for BPG-Werks and the QR Code on the back the shirt. When scanned it will take you to the Facebook page for their product the DTV Shredder, an all terrain vehicle that is a combination of a skateboard and a tank!
Here are some more examples of how QR Codes can be incorporated into printed materials like Stickers, Custom postcards, Favicards and Mini Business Cards. All are great examples of how to turn your project into and interactive experience for the client base you’re aiming to reach. QR Codes can be placed on virtually any print product and they add a level of connectivity that is limited only by your imagination!

420 Science started out in the summer of 2003 as the brainchild of Matt LaPrairie and Gary Kanning. The idea was to sell custom printed jars to head shops with their name and logo, which evolved into them printing their own designs on the jars.
Fast forward to 2005, as sales grew so did the demand to take on 420 Science full time. After graduating from Arizona State University Matt quit his job of five years to focus solely on this project . After years of dedicating their free time to this venture it all paid off when High Times Magazine gave their jars an excellent review in their holiday gift guide that year.
In 2006 it came time for Gary to leave his job as well and that’s when 420 Science became a nationally known brand. People we’re requesting their product by name at head shops across the country. They were now advertising in High Times on a monthly basis. Also that year they were selected as the official stash jar of the Cannabis Cup.
In the summer of 2009 420 Science was featured on the Showtime hit TV series Weeds. 420 Science jars, posters and stickers were featured in five episodes that season.
Since their initial launch they have expanded their line of products to include screw top and latch top jars. The 420 Scope, high powered USB scopes and their most recent product Rez Block.
Jakprints has had the pleasure of working with 420 Science on a number of projects over the past 5 years such as annual catalogs, posters, banners and business cards, and have built a strong relationship with this innovative company.
Our most recent project for them was a wall decal that was used to brand a podium fixture showcasing their Rez Block product, which was on display at the Champs Trade Show in Las Vegas. Champs is the largest gathering of glass manufacturers and head shops in the world.
We at Jakprints are very excited to embark on many more projects with Matt, Gary and the 420 Science team as well as maintain a great relationship with a company that has a finger on the pulse of their industry. For more information on 420 Science and their full line of products check out www.420science.com!
