Rolling along in the Jakprints Employee Spotlight we’re focusing in on Keith Teneyck. Keith came to us just after finishing a tour with the circus (we’re not kidding) and has been here for almost five strong years working in the Full Color department. Keith has experience with several different positions in the department and he currently runs our scoring and perforation machine and is our in house videographer. When Keith’s not rounding corners on business cards or perfectly scoring postcards he’s busy making independent short films. He’s made three so far (La Recherche, A Barge and it’s Wind, Hey Old Man) and is actively working on his first full length film called Last Plain. Take it away Keith.

What do you like to do on your free time? Travel, Coffee, catching up on the X-Files with my girlfriend, Photoshop, Video editing
What inspired you to start making movies? The love of film and cinema. To learn and to create.
Talk a little more about your movie projects: I’ve made 3 so far and wrote one also. I’m currently in pre production for my first full length feature. I’m casting it. You got a beard? You’re in. It’s a western. A depraved, sad, violent western.
What would you do if you had a million dollars? Invest $500,000 onto a CD that earns 4% interest a year. Spend the other $500,000 on making a film geared towards the film festival circuit and the direct to dvd market.
If you could travel to one place in the world where and why? Asia. It’s Asia. Doesn’t get much more bad ass than that.
Talk about your time with the circus: The circus made me into a man. It made me realize I had muscles in my hands. It was rough for a longtime. Eventually I just became the lifestyle, circus lingo and all. Best decision I could have made for myself at the time. Definitely the most influential milieu of my past.
What other positions have you held at Jakprints? I boxed for the first four months. I worked with our Press Operator underling as an assistant. Jakprints then purchased a score/perforation machine and assigned me to pioneer it. After so long the volume of work became so heavy they had to upgrade to the Rosback which is what I run now. I also took the initial laminating department under my wing when a fellow employee retired. Now, I’m working on the videographer position.
What are some interesting projects you’ve been a part of? The videographer position for Jakprints. We’ve made some pretty cool videos so far and there are a lot more to come.
Why do you choose to work at Jakprints? In short, it simply fell into place and it fits nice.
What are your favorite aspects of what you do at Jakprints? The immense responsibility of putting the final quality out the door. Also the receptiveness of your own ideas.
Keith’s latest film Hey Old Man premieres at the Capitol Theater Sunday February 27th at 7pm. Tickets are $8.00 can be purchased in advance at www.clevelandcinemas.com or day of show. After party to follow at the Happy Dog located on W.58th and Detroit.

Everybody here at Jakprints would like to send out a big congratulations to Esperanza Spalding on winning the 2011 GRAMMY© award for Best New Artist. We would also like to say we are very excited to be printing apparel for such a talented, up and coming musician.
For those of you that don’t know who Esperanza Spalding is here’s a little excerpt taken from her website www.esperanzaspalding.com: “If “esperanza” is the Spanish word for hope, then bassist, vocalist and composer Esperanza Spalding could not have been given a more fitting name at birth. Blessed with uncanny instrumental chops, a multi-lingual voice that is part angel and part siren, and a natural beauty that borders on the hypnotic, the 25-year-old prodigy-turned-pro might well be the hope for the future of jazz and instrumental music.” After listening to some of her recordings we think that description couldn’t fit any better.
Jakprints had the pleasure of printing several designs for Esperanza. The first on the left is printed on a Bella Baby Rib short sleeve V neck and the mens style(right) is printed on a Gildan Softstyle shirt. Both are full chest graphic position and use plastisol ink.
This design was produced as a full color process print due to the graphic resolution. It was also printed on the Bella Baby Rib short sleeve V neck in heather gray.
Lastly, the shirt on the left is printed on Mens Magic Apparel Group Classic Short Sleeve Premium Ring Spun Tee with full chest graphic placement. The one on the right is a Mens Alstyle Adult Short Sleeve T-Shirt, center chest graphic placement with both using plastisol ink.
All of these items and more are available on here web store at www.esperanzaspalding.com. We look forward to printing more projects for Esperanza and wish her the best in her blossoming music career.

The New Music Seminar started in the summer of 1980 when 220 people met in a rehearsal space in New York City to talk about issues within the music business. The birth of the seminar brought new ideas, talent and connections to the music industry as well as the introduction of hip-hop, new wave, house and other new forms of music. In it’s first year the NMS became the world’s largest and most influential gathering in the industry, bringing in over 8,000 people from 3 continents. The NMS has inspired almost every music event around the globe, including SXSW, Canadian Music Week and The Winter Music Conference.
The New Music Seminar’s mission statement is to create a music business in which talent can rise to its highest potential based solely on its merit, without regard to its financial resources or connections. To teach artists and their representatives better, more affordable and faster ways to achieve success. To create a new economic model that better rewards both artists, their investors and those in artist services.
Some of the focal points for the seminar are to educate artists on such things as legal and business basics, how to keep up with the latest technology, networking with others to build your own musical foundation, managing and monetizing your relationship with your fans, how to stand out from your competition, seeing the music business and your opportunities in a new way and learning how to create the music and content you need to succeed.
This years seminar will take place February 14th, 15th and 16th at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.
Jakprints is the official printer and merchandiser of the 2011 New Music Seminar and we are very excited to be part of an event that helps and encourages artists to be themselves and how to be successful doing so.
Our very own Sales Manager Dan Byler will be taking part in a mentoring session where folks can sit down with him one on one to have questions answered about merchandise and printing. The session will take place on Tuesday February, 15th 5:00pm to 6:30 and is limited to the first 144 people that sign up.
On Wednesday February 16th in the East/West ballroom from 12:20 to 12:38 Dan will be giving a presentation on how merchandise makes musicians money and helps them connect with fans.
Jakprints will have a booth set up throughout the entire seminar, where people can stop by and check out the latest marketing tools and ideas, as well as pick up some discounts on our products, so they can take their music career to the next level.
For more information on the NSM you can check out www.newmusicseminar.com. See you in L.A.!

This week our Jakprints Employee Spotlight is on Tony Pohlman. Tony is in the middle of his second year here at Jakprints as an account manager. He’s been involved in the Cleveland hardcore and punk scene for around 8 years now, he also plays out occasionally with his band the Give and Go’s. Tony has built strong relationships with clients such as Deathwish Inc, Flashes of Hope and Hoyt Archery, he also grows a mean beard. Here’s a little more about Tony…

Book/Author: “The World According to Garp” by John Irving, “East of Eden” by Steinbeck
What do you like to do on your free time? Playing guitar/bass, collecting vinyl, cooking, camping/hiking
What would you do if you had a million dollars? Invest wisely, go back to college, open a new and used music store (and live off previously mentioned winnings). Buy something completely unnecessary and extravagant on the first day, like a wall of loud amps for my guitar.
If you could travel to one place in the world where and why? Southeast Asia, for the food and backpacking
Why do you choose to work at Jakprints? It’s a creative environment where I’m encouraged to grow (a beard).
What are some interesting projects you’ve been a part of? Working with a couple large events to get their print materials done in time (New Music Seminar, the FEST 9 in Florida). Lots of small projects to figure out the right product for a customer on a budget. Having good artwork can make an otherwise “average” project interesting.
What is the most rewarding thing about working at Jakprints? Learning new things almost everyday. Helping interesting or fun clients get the right product, knowing that your input helped them make the right decision. Hearing a client is completely happy with what you helped them with, especially with larger or more complex and custom pieces.
