Recently, Jakprints had the pleasure of printing apparel for Xyience and the UFC fighter Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy. For those of you don’t know Dan Hardy, he’s an English-born fighter who started training in Taekwondo at the age of six. He’s trained in China with the Shaolin monks, and, after realizing the importance of grappling skills in MMA, cross trained in many other styles of martial arts. Dan has held the Cage Warriors Welterweight World Title, and he is the current Light-Welterweight Champion and the UK Storm British Champion.
Dan’s shirt was printed on a Men’s Alstyle Adult Short Sleeve T-Shirt. The front has a full chest graphic placement with plastisol ink.
The Xyience logo on the back has an upper back graphic placement, also printed with plastisol ink.
Dan will be competing this Saturday, March 26th, in UFC Fight Night 24 at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. His opponent is American-born fighter Anthony Johnson whose record is currently eight wins, three losses. We at Jakprints wish him the best in this weekend’s bout and look forward to doing more work for Dan and the Xyience team!

This week on the Jakprints Employee Spotlight we’re talking with Account Manager Mary Myers. Mary has been with us for five years. Her main focus at Jakprints is to assist customers with a variety of print projects: helping them turn their vision into something tangible. She handles such accounts as The Cleveland Zoological Society, Joshua Liner Gallery, and Zipcar. Mary also has her hands full outside of work being a mom. She and her husband Scott welcomed their daughter, Lucy, into the world in July of 2010. Mary has a wild sense of humor and can be heard laughing through out the halls of our office—she also gives a great high five!

Color: Purple.
Food: Any kind of pasta.
Movie: It’s so hard to pick just one! Although if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend a film called The Forbidden Zone.
Band/Musician: It’s always changing. I’ve been on a Prince kick as of late.
Book/Author: It’s hard to find time to read, but I do indulge occasionally in gossip magazines. Total guilty pleasure!
What do you like to do on your free time: Play with my daughter, play board games with my husband and friends, and walk my dogs. I recently started knitting. And, when I get the chance, I like to party.
What would you do if you had one million dollars: Send my daughter to college (a million would cover books, right?). And if I could buy a modest house with lots of land and open an animal sanctuary that would be pretty sweet.
If you could travel to one place in the world where would it be and why: Italy! My great grandparents were from Italy, so I think it would be cool to see where it all started. Plus, I would smash tons of pasta and wine.
Why do you choose to work at Jakprints? I was laid off and a friend told me to fill out an application. Turned out that I actually knew quite a few people who worked here already. Small world! I didn’t know anything about the printing industry, but I’ve learned so much!
What are some interesting projects you’ve been a part of? I’m a nerd for elephants, so seeing all the projects come through for the new African Elephant Crossing exhibit that’s opening this year at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is pretty exciting.
What are your favorite aspects of what you do at Jakprints? I really enjoy seeing all the interesting artwork that comes in and helping make an idea a reality for a customer. Plus, I work with some of the greatest people you could ever meet.

We’re back with another installment of the Jakprints Employee Spotlight. This week we’re talking to Ed Rodgers, who is finishing up his sixth year at Jakprints. Ed started at an entry level position washing screens in the Apparel Prepress Department and after years of hard work, found a home in Color Separations. Color separating is the process of manually extracting the colors that make up a digital image into individual colors for print. From the most basic spot color image to the most complex full color simulation, the job of the color separator is to paint on the shirt using print inks to create the most accurate representation of the customers supplied graphic art.
If Ed could be described in one word it would be “riffs.” He makes no bones about his love for bands like Black Sabbath and tuned down sludgy guitar tones. In his free time he can be seen shredding the guitar with one of his two bands What’s Wrong With Ya Miss? and Heavy Thoughts. Now for more on Ed.

Color: Black, Burgundy
Food: I think I can honestly say that I don’t have a favorite food. I’ll eat anything.
Movie: Back to the Future trilogy, The Ninth Gate. Anything involving the weird and the Devil.
Band/Musician: High on Fire, Black Sabbath, Roc Marciano, Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
What do you like to do on your free time? Hang out with my awesome girlfriend, Sarah, play guitar, make beats, play video games, play in various bands, and skateboard.
Tell us about music projects you’ve been a part of? Right now I’m in two bands. I play guitar in stoner metal band What’s Wrong Withya Miss?, which is a power trio that is all about the riff. My other band is Heavy Thoughts, which I also play guitar in and that is Sabbath/Slayer-sounding hardcore.
What would you do if you had a million dollars? Invest a quarter of it into something lucrative so eventually I don’t have to work anymore, buy a car, buy a house and some land, buy various music instruments and effects pedals and amps, and take an insane vacation with Sarah.
If you could travel to one place in the world where and why? Japan, just so I can get culture shocked. And people watch.
Why do you like about working at Jakprints? I get to work alongside friends and I get to listen to tunes all day. And the Christmas parties, obviously.
What are your favorite aspects of what you do at Jakprints? Seeing the finished product on a shirt after just seeing it as a graphic on my computer screen.
Any funny stories that happened at work? Every day in our office is a funny story.
