Pitchfork Music Festival 2011

The 2011 installment of the Pitchfork Music Festival took place in Chicago’s Union Park July 15th – 17th. The Jakprints team caught up with our friend the Ice Cream Man to help pass out cold treats to overheated festival goers. The hot temperatures kept a steady line at the truck all weekend. Over 50,000 people attended the fest its a good thing we brought extra.

Pitchfork has made it their goal to create a reasonably priced summer music festival that provides an overwhelmingly positive, comfortable and fun festival experience for both attendees and musicians. With so many other summer festivals around Pitchfork has tried to do it’s best to stand out and has succeeded.

Some of this year’s performers include: Deer Hunter, TV On The Radio, Animal Collective, Ema, Battles, Guided By Voices, Neko Case, Thurston Moore, Fleet Foxes, Kylesa and Superchunk.

Frank Burton and Ice Cream Man were kind enough to lend us some great photos from this year’s event that you can view below.

EMA was one of most anticipated acts at Pitchfork.

The great thing about festivals are performances can pop up anywhere.

Dismemberment Plan was another hot act at Pitchfork.

Rockstar Mayhem Festival

The 2011 Rockstar Mayhem Festival kicked off July 9th at the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernadino California. We were there to catch all the action and snag some photos of those brave enough to bare the heat! The tour which runs through mid August features acts such as Megadeath, Disturbed, Godsmack, Hatebreed, Unearth, Machine Head, Red Fang and Straight Line Stitch.

Straight Line Stitch played to a packed crowd.

Fans lining up to catch and autograph and meet the band after their set.

Straight Line Stitch and our friends at Indiemerchstore teamed up for this event.

The Jagermeister Stage was jamming all day as well

The Revolver booth has tons to give away to eager fans. They could even take their chance at the “Hammer of the Gods” game pictured to the left.

Who doesn’t like a free taco? Our friends at Music Saves Lives agree with us!

We had a great time hanging out in the sun and head banging to some great bands. If you’re a fan of metal this is the tour you must see! For more information including tour dates and where to purchase tickets check out rockstarmayhemfest.com

Cleveland Trivia

Creators Rebecca Smolenski and Brian Conti’s Cleveland Trivia is an idea that spawned from playing music trivia on a Mega Touch Machine. Although there were other trivia nights around the city, they were determined to hold a strictly music night. After discovering this didn’t exist the two figured there would be others interested in playing and it grew from there.

Brian has promoted a multitude of events and club nights which helped him establish connections in the bar scene and made it easy to set up nights at various locations. Brian is a graphic designer by day and a DJ by night, this allowed him to acquire the equipment he needed as well as create flyers and a website for his new company. Brian says the most challenging thing is writing and researching the questions.

“Since the beginning we have written almost 4,000 questions to date.”

What was set out to be a music trivia night has evolved into general trivia . Cleveland Trivia is currently up to 10 locations with a variety of sponsors providing supplies and prizes. The duo have expanded the business to Columbus. Where they already have three nights and are continuing to grow, they’re also planning to reach out to more locations and cities.

Brian describes the vision for Cleveland trivia as “An Idea to create a fun, live game where people could interact, talk to us and have fun with their friends.”

He also tells us “I know a number of people who have made long lasting friendships from getting together and playing trivia each week.”

A few of us at Jakprints had the pleasure of attending and participating in a Cleveland Trivia night and had a blast. We ended up finishing in second place after putting it all on the line and walked out with some great prizes. If you’re looking for something to add a little spice to another night at the bar I suggest checking this out!

HOW Design Conference Wrap-up

Jakprints attended this year’s HOW Design Conference and made a bang!

Another year has passed at HOW Design Live and we had a blast! After a lot of hard work (and a flat tire) we made it to Chicago and set up for a great time. We delivered a sets of Favicards to our friends at Blend Images and we even dropped off a set at the Moo Cards booth!  Hey we get it, you need to keep your eye on the competition.

Our booth was packed to the gills with custom merchandise from graphic tees and tote bags, to banners, stickers and business cards. When they opened up the doors Friday night it turned into a stampede of creatives! There were hundreds of people clamoring to grab totes, trinkets, and our exclusive Designer Toolkits — a must have for anyone in the industry.

In the Designer Toolkits we included:

  • Favicards for your hand-to-hand social networking
  • CMYK Stickers to promote the sticker contest that we’re throwing with CMYK Magazine
  • Jakprints Stickers with our $99 sticker specials
  • Jakprints Pricing Guides with a demo of our new invisible black light inks.
  • And the Folding Ruler which has all the basics like font size as well as a bunch of designer templates for reference and highlighting our maximum shirt printing size of 28″ tall!

With a tweet from one of the attendees, the ruler was by far the biggest hit! ”Finally able to look at all my #HOWLive stuff & being a huge geek….so far my favorite thing: ruler with template sizes from @jakprints!” - @Kray4cy

We checked out some of the other exhibitors booths around the event too.  We were really impressed with the premium booths by Neenah Paper and HP as well as the smaller setups like Fastkit, a custom finishing and packaging house out of Miami Florida, and Wunderland, a staffing agency that focuses on connecting designers, marketers, copywriters, web and mobile developers with the companies that need them.

After the show ended we took full advantage of one last shot at networking and hit the dance floor to live music of the Blues Brothers at the closing night party which was sponsored by Neenah Paper.

In between conference time and lots of toolkit assembly we rode around the city enjoying the views where we could. All in all a great trip to the HOW Design Conference and the windy city, can’t wait for next year!

Downtown Chicago at night.

We packed the van without an inch to spare.
No flat tire can stop us!

Getting the apparel set up just right.

Our Designer Toolkits were the hot item at HOW Design live!

All set up!

Our friend’s at Blend Images with their new Favicards!

Always a fan of live art taking place.
